Mission

To engage the community of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County in partnership to provide shelter, compassionate support and access to services for people who are homeless.

Services

Anyone over the age of 18 who is experiencing homelessness is welcome at Open Doors. We offer shelter from 6:30pm - 7am year round. Year round is a new services provided as of spring 2020.

Who we primarily serve

Anyone over the age of 18 years old in the Harrisonburg and Rockingham community. Families and children are not permitted. There is a 40 person capacity per night.

Activities

Open Doors hosts community fundraisers throughout the year. The main event is the annual Food Truck Fest in April that teens can attend.

Teen Opportunities

Volunteering.

- Teens 18 and older can volunteer at the shelter. This can be for community services hours or voluntarily. Teens may also be a part of a church body that is hosting the shelter.

Donating

- Students can help donate monetarily or through item donations listed on their website such as underwear, hats, toiletries, and other personal needs items. You can also select Open Doors on your amazon through Amazon Smiles when checking out on amazon.com You can also register your Kroger Plus Card into the Kroger Community Rewards Program online or by phone.

Attending Events/Fundraisers

-Open Doors hosts fundraising events in the community throughout the year. This includes the food truck fest usually held in April.

Unique Information

Open Doors is held at a different location each week all throughout the Harrisonburg/Rockingham area. Churches and other local facilities donate their space for a week at a time to be used for the shelter.
